There’s something magical about building something with your hands.

For instance:

We are finishing our basement, and one of the things we will be doing down there is playing music.

So of course you need a stage right?

Well…

…at least I think so.

Why not?!!

But it’s gotta be small and removable in case a future owner doesn’t want to rock out by themselves in the basement.

First question is how high should it be?

I thought 12″, Megan thought 6″.

So we compromised on 8″. Marriage… lol.

I think everything is better higher, unless its our weight of course.

Anyways…

… I finished this weekend and it looks pretty good for a untrained carpenter like myself.

And I have to tell you.

I was worn out.

Bending over, back aching, feet hurting, hands sore.

Slept like a rock both nights.

Still tired from it.

Which is somewhat depressing.

But it also felt really good.

In this computer age we live in, it’s almost therapeutic to build something with our hands.

To finish something that we can hold, walk on, give away, experience.

Another really cool thing to finish is your first complete song.

When you have wanted to play piano for most of your life, the dream is to really play a song in it’s entirety.

To finish something you can feel and experience tangibly in the music.

And playing a song isn’t really that much different than building a little stage.

Step by step, layer by layer and then poof! All the sudden you are a piano player.

To somebody who can’t swing a hammer, I am a carpenter.

To a true carpenter, I am a hack.

But to me, I am a finisher, and my proof is a stage that looks pretty good and can be played on without falling apart.

If you’re ready to become a piano player for yourself.

Then the right program for you could be the Layer Method.
