There’s a book called “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey.
You know the guy who invented that Franklin planner thing that is all but obsolete now.
I used to carry one of those things around as if my life depended on it.
Couldn’t function without it.
But it got me thinking about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Piano Players.
Here’s my list:
1) Clear expectation of the desired result
2) Consistent practice
3) Accepts imperfection as part of the process to reach a goal
4) Visualizes the desired outcome prior to practicing
5) Experiments on their own outside of the box
6) Trusts the teacher
7) Follows through with goals
That pretty much applies to anything in life I guess.
But especially piano.
The only thing missing from that list is having a program that is laid out so ridiculously easy to understand that you can’t fail.
BTW.
Definition of effective?
“Successful in producing the desired or intended result.”
If you’re desired or intended result is to play the piano with both hands, have it sound rich and full, and do it with songs you love…
