I have several Traditional piano teachers who read my daily emails.
Some use my program to teach, some just read to respond mockingly about how I am ruining the world of traditional piano.
And then there is Marylee.
She is somewhere in between.
The thing I like about Marylee is that she is honest.
And she wrote me the other day telling me how she just referred a gal interested in playing piano to the Layer Method.
In her words:
“Hi Tim- I just got off the phone with Melanie (mother) talking about 16-year old Maddie. She was all excited about lessons, and then I broke in to tell her about you. I even invited them over to my house to see your program. Don’t know if I convinced them, so I told her I’d send her your address. I hope she goes your route, not mine. I told her that after the age of about 12, it is a proven fact that it is much harder to learn to play my way. So…. (?). I told her the story of your email today about the guy playing at church. A good selling point! Marylee”
Now that is a teacher who cares about the success of her students.
And she is right (in my humble but totally accurate opinion)
I don’t recommend my method to anybody under the age of 12.
But after that…
…there’s no better way.
So forgive yourself for failing at traditional lessons and programs as an adult. They are taught in the wrong order, we reverse that.
It’s much harder (if not impossible), to really play the way you want the traditional way.
And free yourself up to try again.
The Layer Method is why you will be successful when you learn to play piano by ear.
10-15 minutes a day practicing is all you need.
By Thanksgiving you could be playing in front of family and friends!
So get on it. Sign up for the Layer Method before another year slips by.
