I’ve noticed a disturbing trend.
And in a meeting the other day, somebody said something that made me cringe.
It went something like this:
He said, “My wife’s computer is running for two weeks straight (24 hours/day) uploading pictures to our new cloud storage. It’s great because I got like 100 Terrabytes (whatever that means) of storage for only a few extra bucks a month. Now we will have all 400,000 photos we have taken stored online!”
This guy was basically high fiving himself and I was thinking,
…dum, da da, dum dumb.
So here’s where it all goes south for me.
We take more pictures, selfies, whatever than ever before.
But they are becoming almost meaningless because of the quantity.
They will never go back and look at them, nobody in the future when they pass on will ever look at them because it’s too overwhelming. I mean seriously… where would you start?
And how would you ever finish?
I asked wifey the other night if she would be willing to test something. And of course she said yes. I mean we are married and that is obviously how that works.
But I said this, “How bout we start taking 24 pictures a year, print them out and put them in a “real” handheld paper photo album.
That way we can chronical our life, in a simple way.
Something that we will actually look at.
Something that will tell a story.
Something that when we die, our kids, friends, family etc will take the time to sit down and look through because they can do it all in an hour over Turkey day or something.
Simple.
Tells a story.
And is easy to consume.
I’ll let you know how it works but for now thats the plan.
