During breakfast with Neil (good friend of mine) we decided maybe people should stop dreaming so big…?
Think about all the book titles out there:
-Thing Big
-Good to Great
-Think and Grow Rich
-10 Steps to Greatness
and on and on.
But what if part of the problem (for people not achieving their goals) is people are dreaming too big and then it becomes overwhelming that they aren’t even close to it yet.
I mean what if there where some other books out there like:
-Think Small
-Not so good to Okay
-Wake up and pay your bills
-10 Steps to Moderate Success
I wonder if any of those books would sell! 😉
Who knows, I might just write one. A small one of course.
But I see this happen all the time with students who want to learn piano.
They get all excited, practice for a while, then give up.
Why?
Most times it’s because they didn’t start playing like Beethoven quick enough…
…When they dreamed of playing piano, they didn’t have in their mind the frustration of what it takes to get there.
The little plateaus, getting the fingers to move smoothly.
They saw themselves playing a grand piano in front of 1500 people and forgot what it takes to get there.
And what it takes is to start thinking smaller.
Like this.
Just show up for 15 minutes a day to practice.
Let that be your first goal.
Very small.
Then add little goals on top of that.
Like play with both hands within 6 months.
I guarantee you will beat this by months, and when you do play with both hands (in like 60 days) then you will feel SUCCESSFUL!
So maybe we should just all start thinking smaller. What do you think?
One really small step you could take is to buy a program like the Layer Method to get you going.
And guess what?
You can do that here:
