The Karate Kid was one of my all time favorite movies back in the day.
Tired of being bullied, Danielson (Ralph Macchio) needed to learn how to protect himself.
So Mr. Miaggi agreed to help…
…right after Danielson finished waxing all of his cars, painted his fence, and a laundry list of other chores.
Eventually, Danielson was obviously tired of being a personal slave.
And decided he was gonna just quit.
And then the great teacher Mr. Miaggi showed him something.
He showed him that he had been teaching him all along.
Paint the fence became how to block a punch.
Wax on Wax off became how to block a kick.
HIYAAAAA!!!! ( it was hard to figure out how to spell a karate chop sound!) 😉
anyway…
…Danielson eventually kicked everybody’s butt.
Mr. Miaggi was a genius in the way he approached young Danielson.
It was Danielsons AHA moment when he realized what he had been doing was gaining skills he didn’t even know he was learning.
Under the radar, sneaky teaching!
The Layer Method of Piano teaches the same way.
You DO then you UNDERSTAND…
…unfortunately a lot of people don’t have the discipline and patience to get their AHA moments by trusting the teacher.
Nancy wrote the other day about one of her AHA moments:
“Tim-Today I got my “Aha” moment! It is an awesome feeling. Added the fifth with my left hand to my progression and I sounded like a piano player!!! Thank you!-Nancy”
She sounded like a piano player.
That my friend is worth all the piano wax on wax off’s you have to do. 😉
HIYAAAAAA!!!
If you are ready to go to work, get mad at me, and almost quit before you become a piano player…
…then I am ready to let you wax my car and paint my fence among other things. You can pick up your chore list right here:
