It’s amazing to me how hard it is to see progress in ourselves.
As a teacher I see this first hand.
Common frustrations of students go like this:
1) Hands just won’t work right
2) Now the hands are working but the rhythm is off
3) Now the rhythm is working but I just can get the “rocking through the chords”
4) Now I get the rocking through the chord, but I can’t (insert the next challenge)
And what I have to CONSTANTLY remind my students of (and myself) is how far they have come.
Before having your hands move on their own seemed like climbing Mt. Everest and now it’s not even a thought. (effortless)
If we could just go back to the beginning and realize how far we have come, we would instantly be energized to keep progressing.
Must be something about us Humans.
We tend to focus on what we want, not what we have.
Whether thats with stuff or talent or whatever.
It’s an epidemic that if I could solve would be a trillionaire.
Wouldn’t that be something!?
Anyway…
…you just have to fight through it for a little bit of time.
Not very long.
A few weeks for most skills to be completely ingrained so you can’t forget it even if you tried.
But (at least with piano) you need a method that teaches this way.
Understands our human nature so you get the next skill down before you lose heart.
That’s the Layer Method of Piano.
Specifically designed and laid out for us humans like current student Tim who wrote in some feedback the other day this:
“The video clips are short and to the point. Each layer is “bite size”. Results come quickly.” Tim McManus
And you can start experiencing the joy of frustration and triumph with playing the piano here:
