One of my biggest pet peeves is when people say this:
“I have no idea”
or
“I haven’t thought about it”
Okay…
Well let’s start thinking about it then.
And I have a sneaky little way to manipulate people into answering a question with specifics.
And it always gets a response.
For Example:
The other day I asked a friend where they would move, right now, if they could (and wanted to) move anywhere in the world. Start over fresh, no bills, no debt, could do anything you wanted.
He said, “I have no idea”
Of course you don’t, I said…
Now…Here’s how the (specific answer getting system works)
Step 1.
Lay out a ridiculous extreme.
1) I said, How bout an igloo off the coast of Antarctica?
NO WAY he said.
Okay, so you DO HAVE and idea of where you would go.
Step 2.
Ask a less ridiculous question.
2) I said, “What about somewhere in Africa?”
NO, No, NO he said.
Then it always happens. They start to think and actually come up with an answer.
So he said, “you know what, now that I am thinking about it, I would go to Key West and start renting beach chairs to tourists”
AHA!
A real life answer!
You see.
I have found most people need just a little framework to get them thinking.
Even the people who typically don’t think at all will have an answer deep down with just a little prodding with these two questions.
And it only takes 2 questions! You should try it. It’s fool proof.
And when it comes to teaching piano I have notice the same thing.
All people really want is a framework (boundaries and steps) to get them playing. They don’t want 100 different ways to play. They want one that is proven to work and is specifically laid out step by step.
Once they have that…
…they start playing like they never thought possible.
Happens every time.
For those who actually go through the program.
You ever thought about what it would be like to play for the Superbowl halftime show. Just you and the piano up there playing and singing for millions?
Or maybe in a pub somewhere up in the Pacific Northwest playing for the fisherman coming in off the water?
NO?
Well..
…I bet you have thought about what it would be like to sit and play songs you love, with both hands, in the comfort of your own home…?
And that my friend is very quickly do-able!
All you need is the framework.
We call that the Layer Method of Piano.
