Here’s the question I got and it may be offensive to some, so don’t read if you are easily offended:
“If you had a gun to your head and had to give me 3 tips that would drastically reduce the time it takes for me to learn piano, what would they be?”
I am pretty sure this will never happen. If it did though, I’m positive the first thing I would say would be…
“Put the gun down, it takes two hands to play piano.”
But since that won’t happen… It gave me a great opportunity to really answer the question.
“3” Tips… Okay go.
1. Start playing with advanced chord positions right away.
At PianoFool we call it the M&M Method (minimal movement)
It’s really what gives my students their biggest “aha!” moment and instills confidence right away when beginning.
A simple “switcharoo” of the fingers allows you to move less, learn quicker, and play smoother.
Okay next.
2. Give yourself permission to stink at first. (forget perfection) perfection is an illusion anyway.
Don’t beat yourself up because it sounds terrible at first. It always does.
And keep this in mind…
Every concert you go to there are missed chords, wrong notes, and complete screw ups. And they are the PROFESSIONALS. So why would you ever let that get you down?
Fight through it, play though it, and the mistakes will start to disappear once you stop focusing on them.
…and the last tip, #3.
3. Learn how to play within the structure of song.
Once you start to see patterns in songs, verse and chorus progressions, and other such cool things you will be freed up to play what you want.
And of course if I had to give 4 tips I would recommend learning through a proven program that follows these 3 tips which you can get here:
