“If you’re retired there is a chance you’re bored, and if you’re not bored, then there’s a greater chance you’re boring”
Exact words from a two time retired guy who gave me a ride the other day.
His name?
Joe.
He picked me up from the car dealership while I was waiting for my car to get worked on.
He was about 75.
Stubby old guy.
Boston accent, could tell he liked his beer by his rosy cheeks and nose.
We got to talking and come to find out he has been retired twice now, but continues to go back to work.
I asked him why he keeps going back to work and he said the following:
“Well, when my wife and I retired we basically woke up everyday, stared at each other over coffee and would ask this question… “what are we doing to do today, but remember we can’t spend any money because we are retired”.. So I decided going back to work was a much better choice for me then being bored all day.”
He was lacking purpose in his day.
Some people love having all the free time in the world.
It literally kills others.
Free time is not good for me.
I need purpose in the day.
And so do a lot of my students.
Even if it’s just 15 minutes of practice to progress to the next level of playing the piano.
Besides, learning an instrument (like the piano) is good for the soul.
Makes you more interesting.
Gives you an answer to the dreaded question, “whats new with you?”
Helps with all kinds of ailments (disclaimer: I am not a doctor so everything I say is rooted only in ignorance when it comes to health matters)
You could take an action today and sign up for my program.
Then you could at least get something accomplished. Other than getting the mail.
Then take the rest of the day off 😉
And if you aren’t retired.
Just think about how much time you will have to get even better at playing when you are if you start now?
