There’s a great lesson in this email from student John. See if you can find it.
“I am learning from your program. I’ve played guitar professionally for 40+ years, in the rock business, and always wanted to learn the piano. In doing your program I’m finding that I’m not learning exactly note for note, or action by action, but what I’m learning is to hear the song in my head and let my hands find what it is that I’m looking for. If that doesn’t make sense, I get it. It makes sense to me. Just like playing chords on a guitar in different positions, you’ve showed me this same thing on the piano. And, it works. Amazing Grace? Sure, why not? The bottom line is that this method you teach works. I don’t have the time I would like to put into practice because if so I’d be at it hours a day, and not minutes. Sometimes it just takes time for things to fall into place. I’ve known that for many years. Often people think it takes too long for this to happen. I feel for them because the result they were expecting might have been just one more day, or even week down the road but rather than to continue on and let it fall into place they give up…” Thanks John Hummer
Music is a funny thing.
It’s kind of like riding a bike.
It’s really hard until it’s not. And that happens literally overnight, in a moment, after all the hard work, fear, insecurities have all been fought through.
I get mad when people quit my program.
And what I am mad about is the fact they were most likely one more hour away from their hands starting to move on their own… and the “I finally get it” moment happening in their mind.
Sometimes it just takes time for things to fall into place.
Tomorrow might be your day.
But it won’t be unless you practice consistently.
And it certainly won’t be unless you have a framework for piano playing success.
And you know where to get that?
It’s called the Layer Method of Piano.
The same one John is using to finally play the piano with songs he wants to play.
You don’t have to be a great musician to learn.
I have lot’s of musical slouches playing with the Layer Method. Including myself 🙂
