Just received this gem of a question from an email subscriber the other day.
Her words below:
“Does this teach you the correct way to play the piano, learning the notes and theory? Marilyn”
Ah.. The correct way question again.
I used to send back a lengthy reply, you know back in my younger days when I assumed the person actually read it. But lately, since becoming a father, I have started to simplify things.
So I sent back a one word email.
“NO”
Yep, no.
Now some of you may think that will hurt my student sign ups, but in reality it will only help. You see, there are two types of students in this world. One student wants to learn the “correct way”. And the other wants to play the piano, regardless of how they accomplish it.
And when you come at me with a question like that, I already know you’ve convinced yourself of what the correct way is and any other way is simply the opposite of correct…which would be “wrong”.
My guess is that Marilyn has already tried to learn the “correct way” multiple times without success. But even so she still can’t see the forest for the trees when it comes to learning piano.
So…instead of trying to convince, I simply focus on those who aren’t concerned about such PC (piano correctness). Those who simply want to play the piano.
Makes me wonder how many Harvard business professors (who teach the correct way to run a business) ever had to make payroll?
If the person is really smart, that should be a warning sign.
And since I’m not that smart you can trust me. Trust me to show you a simple fool proof method that will get you playing piano quickly. Regardless of natural talent (whatever that means) or past failures.
You will be successful like thousands of others if you simply show up, sit down, follow instructions and practice (10-15 minutes per day)
