So the other morning I woke and and started playing a song I have been learning for a while.
After I finished playing it, wifey (my beautiful wife Megan) yelled from the bathroom.
“sounds like you got it down!”
And that made me think.
How long did it really take me to get this song down. So I went back through my mental rolodex and figured it out.
For me personally, I usually play a song 20-30 times all the way through over about a 60 day period. When I do this, I never forget the song. It’s like imprinted in my brain forever.
Maybe that sounds like a lot. But in reality I don’t play it everyday, I just stop and play as I walk by the piano when I can. So this song really only took this much time.
25 plays over 60 days = about 1.67 hours practicing, or less than 2 minutes per day.
Don’t check my math on that.
The point is…
…its not very much in the whole scheme of things to be able to basically play that song for the rest of your life. You won’t forget it. And I certainly didn’t practice everyday on this song. In fact, I was out of town for 2 weeks during this time.
With the right process, framework and step by step instructions you can do the same. You don’t have to learn it all this week. But once you learn the Layer Method you will be able to do this with songs you love. Some songs you will get in one day. Others may take you 60 days.
But when you look at the life time of enjoyment you will gain from being able to sit down and play with both hands…
…time is irrelevant.
But you have to get started.
