One chord at a time that is…
And in my usually correct opinion it should also be in the context of a song you want to learn.
I need to address this because I got this email recently from Gina:
“Dear Tim, should I be learning all the crucial and non crucial chords right away in the first 5 days?”
My response was:
OH MY GOSH NO!!!
If you learned 4 chords you could pretty much play 90% of popular music.
If you learned like 8, you could pretty much get away with playing anything.
But Gina’s question comes from a common issue with some traditional teaching.
They teach a bunch of stuff that gets overwhelming and boring.
We eliminate this issue with the Layer Method.
You learn one chord at a time within the context of something you are playing.
What you really need to know is how to use chords to play songs.
Structures of the songs, how to identify them and THEN go and learn the chords for that song.
NOT learn all the chords then try to learn how to play the piano.
You can always learn another chord.
The question is this…
…do you know what do with the chord after you learn it?
That’s what we teach in the The Layer Method Of Piano Program.
How to use chords, skills, and tools, to play the songs you want to play.
So stop worrying about learning chords, and start learning what to do with them so you can enjoy playing the piano here:
