Current student Walter sends an unsolicited review of how the Layer Method and Traditional teaching work (or don’t work) together.
His words:

To all those who want to play a piano and really enjoy it; this is for sure the place to come to. I have been studying the traditional way for about 3 years; and I have been studying the Layer Method for about 3 months. I have to admit that I have made more progress with the Layer Method in less time. I can now sit down anywhere (without music notes) and play piano. I even take ‘requests’. The traditional did help; but its absolutely not necessary to learn piano using Tim’s method.
If you have never done any Traditional study, you might even have an easier time of it. I had to waddle my way through the best of both worlds and find what worked for me. I still have some ‘left hand’ stuff to overcome, but thats only a matter of more practice. The bottom line is that those that hear me playing enjoy it, and thats what matters most.
I think that Tims method and a Traditional course of study would compliment each other; but just using the Layer method for 15 minutes a day is all you need to become a junior Mozart…. Really!
Thank you

If you read that and are disappointed that you don’t have any traditional piano background, then let me remind you of something.
I learned to play without any traditional background. And so can you.
In fact, the majority of my students have none. It’s awesome if you do, but definitely not necessary.
You can still play the piano and love it if you are starting from scratch today.
No skills, no problem.
All you need is the guts to invest in a program, set aside time to practice, and the desire to stick with it through the normal ups and downs.
