Student Charlie shared with me a little link to a forum post by a traditional teacher titled… wait for it…
…”I HATE self taught pianists!?”
Then they went on to say this:
“Ok, by self taught pianist, I mean the (insert vulgar slang) who sit at your piano and play chords and know the chord names, and how to play songs in a different key (easy ****!?) And all they play are pop songs, so when you put music in front of them, they are totally lost, yet they say they can “play” the piano, and list it as a achievement…. as a pianist who can read music, figure theory, and appreciate musicians from many callibres, this infuriates me. Anyone else like to share their views?”
Yes. I would like to share my views.
I think you stink.
And your attitude is the reason so many people DREAD going to sit next to you trying to simply learn piano when they have to deal with your ELITIST piano self.
You obviously don’t appreciate musicians from many different calibers (correct spelling by the way)…
…you are simply are mad at something. Most likely the fact you had to sit in years of lessons to be able to be a jackass.
Great for you.
The rest of us (piano peasants) will let you ride high in your little chariot, down the golden paved streets of pompous right on past the back alley we are hanging out in. You know, the alley with all the fun people, playing and singing songs they love, with both hands, and totally without sheet music. Yes, and that is because we can’t read it. Good for you. You got us.
I would like to personally apologize on behalf of people like this. They give the piano teaching industry a really bad name. And if you have dealt with them before, then know it’s not your fault. It’s theirs.
Here’s whats important to know.
You don’t have to put up with this.
You can start hanging out with the alley folk and enjoying life.
We have a beat up old piano that sounds pretty good just waiting for you.
No judgments.
No mocking.
Just good lessons, tricks and tips to get you playing songs you love, with both hands, and without having to deal with elitist piano jerks.
