Nunchucks…rulers…
What’s the difference?
Read about Joann avoiding the ruler (NUNchucks) beatdown and finally playing piano.
“Tim-I recently started your course and I have to say I am SO excited to master it. I have had traditional instructions and my first was with a Nun who hit my fingers with a ruler every time I missed a note. Then as an adult my husband bought me a piano because all he heard was my desire to play. I was able to play melodies by ear with my right hand only but it was not fulfilling.
Your course is so amazing and easy that just practicing the chords and inserting different beats I feel the progress. Whenever I have 10 minutes I go to the piano. My fingers and brain are starting to work together and when I’m not on the piano I visualize the keyboard. I am retired now and so happy to have this challenge at this stage in my life.
Thank You for stepping out of the box and making something so beautiful so possible.” -Joann V.
Whats the deal with rulers anyway?
How come all these traditional teachers of the past carried these knuckle whipping sticks with them all the time?
It’s not like they were measuring anything during piano lessons.
Instead of striking so many knuckles they should be measuring the results of their students!
But alas…
…I assure you I do not wield any knuckle striking instruments. In fact, I encourage hitting wrong notes.
It’s a real skill to be able to “keep on trucking” after hitting a wrong note. Anybody can be perfect, the real skill is being imperfect with nobody really noticing.
Thats what we teach in the Layer Method.
How to play like a rockstar, without really being that good.
That’s the real skill!
And it’s NEVER too late.
Just ask my students dragging a ventilator machine to the piano with them.
So what’s your excuse?
