I love questions from you, my students, and “soon to be” students. Because it allows me to do what I enjoy most.
Help, Encourage, and solve piano playing problems…
So I dug out 3 questions I got this week.
First question…
QUESTION: I want to do both your program and get regular piano lessons. Do you think I should be doing both. I’m a adult beginner?
TIM: I don’t really know the right answer to this one. My gut is to say No. You shouldn’t do both. And here’s why. The “regular” piano lesson teacher will tell you that you can’t learn the way I teach and have it be correct. So then you are faced with an inner conflict which will most likely lead you to frustration.
My suggestion would be to take the “regular’ piano lessons first, until you get bored, and tired of spending lots of money, then leave the dark side for us rebel piano players over here at PianoFool. 😉
Next:
QUESTION: I can’t seem to get my left and right hand working together. I am clumsy I guess. Any ideas?
TIM: Everybody is clumsy at first. Only the dedicated who actually practice 15 minutes a day finally get rewarded when the Universe gives up fighting you one day says out of the blue,
“You again?, fine, I can’t take it anymore…let your hands work now.”
Like flipping a light switch, they start to work. It’s really awesome.
And finally… Last question.
QUESTION: Why wouldn’t I just go on Youtube and learn to play the piano?
TIM: I don’t know… why don’t you?
Maybe it’s because it’s overwhelming, unorganized, riddled with ads, overwhelming, unorganized (whoops did I already say that?)
You COULD absolutely do that. I’m sure it’s been done.
But if you don’t want to get frustrated and quit because you can’t sort through all the information then learn to play piano by ear with the Layer Method Of Piano Program by going here:
We also teach how to use those awesome free tools like Youtube and Google to learn what you want to learn.
