I used to be very sensitive.
It didn’t go well for me. Felt like I was on a runaway roller coaster without the safety harness down.
Then I became an jerk, that went even worse.
Eventually I landed somewhere in the middle. I think the normal people call this balance?
Anyways, I tell you this for a reason.
I was able to find balance because of two things.
1) My mother informed me of this very true, concrete, unbreakable fact… “People don’t think about you, they are too busy worrying about their own problems.”
and…
2) Never take anything personally. GOOD or BAD. The compliment or the insult are both other peoples opinions that 99% are based on a bias that isn’t true.
To illustrate this balance…yesterday I received a couple of emails.
One from Gregg:
“I agree Tim! Wholeheartedly! I have been with your program a few weeks now, and as soon as I signed up for it. a million things came up instead of practicing! I am working on this and have been practicing more and more and am finally beginning to play like I really want to, it is so amazing! I am 43 and wanted to play almost half of my life, just never found the right person to teach me or the right programs to follow, probably spent most of my free money on stuff trying to help me play piano.I think this is the right person and the right program! Thank You So Very Much! Gregg”
and one from Jordan:
‘STOP SENDING ME THESE EMAILS AS&$*@& !!!” JORDAN
See what I mean?
If I took Gregg’s email personally, I would be high as a Coloradian right up until I got Jordans email that would have crash landed me.
Here’s the point…
…Nobody else’s opinion means anything.
It’s up to you to find your own truth. Your inner strength will bullet proof you from the worst and allow to absorb the good at the right pace.
Gregg is obviously a very well balanced and intelligent individual.
And he’s right, it is amazing when you finally start seeing the piano in a different way that opens up doors you had almost given up on.
And when you are a PianoFool student, I will be right there with you to encourage and challenge you to DO IT!
But remember, don’t take anything I say personally. 🙂
Find your truth, find your piano playing bliss, and do it with the revolutionary Layer Method of Piano.
