Ever wonder where some popular sayings come from?
Take the old saying, “Piss Poor” for example.
Back in the 1800’s they used to use urine to tan animal skins. All the less fortunate families would all share one pot to pee in and then once a day it was taken down to the tanner and sold…
…if this was part of your daily life you were considered “piss poor”.
Worse than that though (being piss poor)
Was not even being able to afford a “pot to piss in”!
The lowest of the low at this time “Didn’t have a pot to piss in”.
So what’s this have to do with playing piano?
Nothing.
But it did get me thinking.
Playing the piano is one of the few things that can’t be taken away from you. It makes you rich with talent and skill.
And there are thousands of piano around the world sitting in hotel lobbies, malls, now even on the streets, that are begging to be played!
You could sit down anywhere and play away.
In fact, my wife told me the other day that her mom once said to her.
“Well, learning to play piano will always keep you out of the gutter. Because you can always go play at Von Maur (upscale store) in the mall to make money.”
So being able to play the piano could at least let you buy a pot to piss in.
But for sure it will bring you mucho joy.
